The upbeat, tenacious, and loud city of Tokyo offers the perfect ambiance for the most authentic omurice.
Japan’s response to the Middle East’s shawarma and Mexico’s taco, this dish is a beloved comfort food in the country.
A serving of omurice consists of a thin, softly cooked omelet wrapped around a mound of ketchup-flavored fried rice, not just any type of rice, also often referred to as “chicken rice.” Some varieties are even made with ham and bacon, while other vegan options have no meat at all.
Tokyo’s malls are ostentatious with restaurants serving Japanese flavors, and these omurice dishes subtly wave to you on the food menu. Or, find them in friendly alleyways around this destination.
Let’s get to know the best omurice restaurants in Tokyo, 10 of them.

The ingredients really do the talking.
