Japanese Calligraphy Experience in Asakusa

Can children join the experience?

Yes. Children ages 0–5 can join for free and create their own artwork. Children ages 6–15 pay ¥3,500, and guests ages 16 and older pay ¥5,000 per person, excluding tax. Younger children may need help from a parent or guardian.

How long does the experience take?

The experience lasts about 1–1.5 hours. Advance booking is required. Please arrive at Tokyo Tourist Lounge Asakusa 5 minutes before your booked start time. The experience starts on time, and we do not wait for late arrivals.

Do I need any previous calligraphy experience?

No. Beginners are welcome. Your instructor will guide you through the basics of brush movement and Japanese writing in English, then help you create your own calligraphy artwork.

Is this a good activity in bad weather?

Yes. The experience is held indoors at Tokyo Tourist Lounge Asakusa and normally runs in the rain. If we cancel, we’ll notify you at the email address you provided when booking.

What is included in the experience price?

The price includes guidance and all required tools, including brushes, ink, and paper. We use calligraphy tools from Akashiya, a long-established brush maker from Nara. Left-handed brushes are also available.

Can I take my artwork home the same day?

Yes. You can take your completed calligraphy artwork home on the day of the experience.

What should I wear?

There is no dress code. We recommend comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting a little ink on.

How do I cancel or change my booking?

Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the experience start time receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the start time and no-shows are non-refundable.
