Can children join the experience?
Yes. Children are welcome with an accompanying adult. There is no discounted child or infant rate; all participants pay the regular price of ¥3,500, excluding tax.
How long does the experience take?
The tea ceremony lasts about 1 hour. Each session has 1 to 8 participants, with guidance in English. Advance booking is required. Please arrive at Tokyo Tourist Lounge Asakusa 5 minutes before the experience starts. The session starts on time, and we do not wait for late arrivals.
Do I need any previous tea ceremony experience?
No. This experience is designed for beginners. Your host will guide you step by step, and you will whisk your own bowl of matcha.
Is this a good activity in bad weather?
Yes. The experience normally goes ahead in rainy weather. If we cancel it, we will notify you at the email address you provided when booking.
What is included in the experience price?
The price is ¥3,500 per participant, excluding tax. It includes matcha, traditional Japanese sweets, use of tea utensils, and instruction. We use organic, pesticide-free matcha sourced directly from Minato Seicha, a tea farm in Kyoto. Matcha contains caffeine. Allergies and vegetarian or vegan requirements can be accommodated. Kimono rental or dressing is not included.
What should I wear?
You can join in your everyday clothes. Please wear socks to help protect the tatami mats, which are made from natural plant materials. You can choose what is most comfortable for you. The tea ceremony is held on tatami mats, but chairs are available if you prefer.
How do I cancel or change my booking?
To cancel or request a date or time change, use “Manage Booking” in your confirmation email or email info@tokyolocalized.com. Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the start time and no-shows are non-refundable.
