One of the most frequently asked questions that travelers first pose when they arrive in Tokyo is “Where to start in this mega city?” Very simple answer – Let’s join Tokyo Localized Free Walking Tourto enjoy Tokyo from a local perspective.

Our tour will introduce everything you need to know about Tokyo, which are Tokyo & Edo (the old name of Tokyo), culture, religion, food and history of Japan. Walking through various parts of Tokyo, you will discover everything that a guide book cannot tell you.

The tour starts from Akihabara - the Electric city.

What makes Akihabara different from the other part of Tokyo is, you can find the old, present, and the future of Japan.

You will hear the story about how Akihabara transformed from a vegetable market to an Electric city; how Japan became one of the best home appliance suppliers in the world; how Super Mario & Dragon Ball become well known in the world; what Japanese idol culture is and so many interesting stories about Japan from a local perspective.

Then, we will bring you back to the 17th century. The story of the last capital of Samurais, Edo.

To understand how Tokyo became one of the great cities in the world, we need to go back to understand how Tokugawa Shogunate built the foundation of modern Tokyo, and how they formed the culture and mind set of Japanese.

The walking tour will also take you to one of the most important Shrines in Tokyo.

Why local people come to visit the Shrine? How Japanese think about religions?  Why Christianity is not popular in Japan? Those are the common questions that tourist always have in their minds when they come to Japan. Our guides will deliver the story about religion in Japan, and answer all the questions you may wonder.

During the last part of the tour, we will bring you to the area that show daily life activities of Japanese.

Ueno – Okachimachi area is one of the best places to see the local markets, which you can’t find souvenirs as in other usual tourism spots. It is also the one of the best places in Tokyo to enjoy street foods, and drinking in a budget. You will feel the vibes of the city, and have the idea how people are living in Japan.

The walking tour will finish inside of the Ueno Park, in front of the Statue of Saigo Takamori.

He is one of the greatest heroes at the Meiji Restoration. He dedicated his life to lead Japan to transform from the Samurai government to the modern new democratic government. You will find that there are a lot of Japanese taking picture with Mr. Saigo, and you will listen the last story about how Samurais ended it up, and how Edo changed the city name to “Tokyo”.
